Ghost Recon Online For Wii U

Tonight at a third party-oriented Nintendo roundtable, Ubisoft revealed a version of their free-to-play third-person shooter, Ghost Recon Online, developed specifically for the unique hardware abilities of the Wii U.
Ubisoft performed a brief demo of the game, which featured many of the components you would expect a Ghost Recon title to have, including three different classes (Assault, Recon, and Specialist), gun customization, and perks. However, there were also several aspects that take unique advantages of the Wii U’s hardware.
The first involves the touchscreen. Ubisoft has created a user interface it’s dubbing Crosscom 2.0, which is based on touchscreen devices real soldiers use in the field for intel gathering and issuing commands. In its default state, Crosscom 2.0 shows players a map of their area that they can interact with. For instance, touching the screen will place a beacon on the map, which will show up in the game for you and your fellow players. You can also order missile strikes by touching your target or fly a drone, during which the map is replaced by a camera view.
Ubisoft also discussed the planned online offerings for Ghost Recon Online, which will include a personalized account system for players to view persistent stats and rankings and friends list/matchmaking components for meeting players and comparing your stats. More interesting is Ghost Recon Online’s “always on” online service, which can show you stats and information about your friends on the controller’s touchscreen even when you have the Wii U turned off.
We'll be going hands-on with Ghost Recon Online for Wii U tomorrow, so look for an expanded preview soon.
