Second Witcher 2 Patch Listens To Fans
Numerous reviews and fans of CD Project Red's latest action/RPG have noted both its remarkable storytelling and some big problems. The latest patch goes a long way to addressing the latter.
Now it just seems like CDProjekt is going out of its way to ingratiate itself to fans. First it reveals that all DLC for the Witcher 2 will be free. Then they go and release the game, and it's one of the finest told RPGs of recent years. Next up, they decide to toss out their DRM in the first patch because it's causing some users problems. Now they're going in and adding in a second patch for the game that addresses many of the biggest issues players have had with the game since launch. What's wrong with these guys? They're going to make other developers look bad.
Seriously, we've been extremely impressed with CD Projekt's handling of The Witcher 2's release, and patch 1.2 is continues that impression. Several notable problems have been addressed in the new downloadable patch. The game menu loads faster. You can delete saved games from within the game, and game saves are automatically compressed to save hard drive space. Difficulty balancing has been adjusted in the opening prologue, a problem that almost every new player of the game should be happy to hear. Blocking functionality in combat has been fixed. These are just some of the most notable of 34 changes included.
On top of gameplay adjustments, the team has also added a fun little DLC piece that lets Geralt go to a barber and change his hairstyle during any chapter of the game.
The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings was a great game when it released a few weeks ago, but it was hard to play the game and not notice some rough edges. This patch comes as a welcome adjustment to some of those issues. Here's hoping more developers start to pay such close attention to the specific frustrations being faced by the gamers who play their games.
